In about 2001, I was Commercial Director for a Telecomms business turning over in excess of £250m. My boss was the Managing Director and he had head-hunted me into the position as we had known each other from a previous business relationship.

We needed to recruit a Sales Manager and after I had conducted the first round of interviews, he approached me and asked me if I had come across any PLU’s. I naturally looked puzzled. “People Like Us!” he bellowed across the office. “That’s what we need – People Like Us!”.

Over the years I’ve given this much thought. Clearly not everybody fits with my model of reality but I do know now what criteria or values I hold dear and more importantly, I do know now what honours these and what violates these. It has taken me a long time to reach this understanding. Unique though everybody is (you are the most important person in the world, aren’t you?), I know that I thrive on working with like-minded people and it is for this reason that I want to work with you.
